Let There Be Light: Dialogues Around Light

About the Conference:

 

Let There Be Light: Dialogues Around Light is a one-day conference organized by the Portuguese Physical Society (SPF) and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (FCG), marking the celebrations of the International Year of Light (IYL) in Portugal.

 

The conference aims at bringing together scientists, engineers, educators, artists, medical doctors, historians and other people linked to science, tehcnology, culture and the arts. The goal is to discuss light, its applications and its impact on human culture and modern life.

 

Venue: Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation headquarters in Lisbon, the most prestigious cultural center in the country.


The conference is aimed at a general audience. Registration is free but mandatory and is available until December 13rd.

 

About IYL2015

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2015 as the International Year of Light and Light-based
Technologies
.

 

In proclaiming an International Year of light science and its applications, the UN has recognized
the importance of raising global awareness about how light-based technologies promote
sustainable development and provide solutions to global challenges in energy, education,
agriculture and health.

 

In Portugal the celebrations of the International Year of Light are supported by the National Commission for IYL2015.
